The fall weather may make you want to retreat indoors, but before you get too warm and cozy, sipping hot cocoa by the fire, be sure you have checked everything off of your fall home maintenance list. Keeping on top of these items can prevent winter damage, keep your systems running smoothly, and help prepare your home and yard to shine in the spring.

Fall Home Maintenance Checklist

  • Rake leaves
  • Prune and trim trees and bushes
  • Aerate and fertilize lawn
  • Clean Gutters
  • Exterior Repairs
  • Seal Gaps to keep away pests and critters
  • Inspect walkways and railings
  • Check on/add weather stripping or caulking around doors and windows
  • Winterize Sprinkler System
  • Disconnect hoses
  • Store outdoor furniture
  • Change furnace filter
  • Have furnace inspected and serviced
  • Have ducts cleaned
  • Have chimney inspected and cleaned
  • Identify water shutoff valve in case of issues with frozen pipes
