Freezer Meals – A Bit of Time Now Saves a Bunch of Time Later

August 10, 2022

We’ve heard all about the benefits of enjoying a sit-down dinner at home. The dinner hour can be a special time of checking in, conversation, and bonding, not to mention nourishment. Unfortunately, in order to arrive at the the DINNER HOUR you have to pass through the DINNER PREP PERIOD, which often commences with the frantic realization that everyone is already hungry and how is it already 6:00 and wait, is there even any food in the house?! Followed up with rifling through the pantry and fridge, plus the often irresistible urge to throw in the towel and go get takeout. Of course, this all plays out during the WITCHING HOUR, when some people are trying to wrap up their workday, while others need help to do their math homework, or help just to sit still enough to open their math book.

If only there were a way to always have something on-hand for dinner.

Frozen Food to the Rescue

We all know that a good frozen pizza can be a life-saver. It’s definitely an important staple to keep in your freezer and replace as needed. What other “emergency meals” do you keep in your freezer? Meals that you can grab and cook with little-to-no effort, that people actually want to eat? The end of summer is a great time to take stock of your freezer and how you can beef it up bit.

There are various ways and intensities with which you can step up your freezer game:

  • Stock up on favorites from the store–and make sure you replenish them as needed
  • Make a double portion of a fresh meal you are cooking and throw it in the freezer to have again when it is needed
  • Study up on what foods freeze well and how to best prepare meals to freeze
  • Go all out and spend a day filling your freezer full of meals that you’ll love!

Tips & Resources

  • Freeze your favorites! You won’t pull out a freezer meal unless it’s something you know you’ll love
  • Keep a list of what freezer meals you have and what fresh ingredients (e.g., buns) you’ll need on serving day
  • Prep and freeze meat in your favorite marinade. Take it from the freezer and put it in the fridge the night before you plan to use it. It will thaw and sit in the marinade all day, and be ready for you to grill, slow-cook, or pressure-cook. These are so quick to prep and so yummy to have on-hand
  • Stock up containers
    • Gallon bags are great for freezing items flat for simple storage
    • Use disposable 9×13 pans are great for casseroles
    • Find tupperware that is shaped in the right size for transferring foods into your slow cooker or pressure cooker

I’ve found that if I don’t start my day with gratitude, it’s far too easy to get lost in the “to-do” list.

I make it a point to write down what I’m thankful for right now, but also what I’m grateful for in the future. In real estate, we’re always looking ahead—at the next closing, the next dream home, the next milestone for our clients. Visualizing that success with a grateful heart makes the hard work feel like a privilege.

As E.B. White says on my journal cover: “I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time.”

Helping you find your place in this world is my way of changing it—and I plan on having a great time doing it!

I’d love to know: what is your “non-negotiable” in the morning to get your headspace right? Let me know in the comments! 👇

Luxury is in the details. 💥

I’m sharing a look at the elevated features that turn a house into a sanctuary. Whether it’s the indoor-outdoor flow of the sliding glass walls or the cozy comfort of an outdoor fireplace with a river view, these are the moments that make a home unforgettable.

Which feature is your favorite?

Most buyers look at the staging. I look at the stuff that costs you money. 🔍

In our specific Portland market, these are the "Big 6" I’m hunting for during every single walkthrough:

1️⃣ The Oil Tank Mystery: I’m looking for fill pipes in the yard. An abandoned underground tank is a massive liability. Soil remediation can quickly turn into a $2,000–$20,000 nightmare.

2️⃣ The "Mossy" Roof: PNW moisture is brutal. If I see curling shingles or heavy moss, we’re at the end of its life. A replacement in our area averages $12,000–$25,000.

3️⃣ Electrical Red Flags: I always check the panel for Zinsco, Federal Pacific, or Knob & Tube. These are often uninsurable in Oregon. Budget $3,000–$5,000 for a modern upgrade.

4️⃣ Radon—The Invisible Guest: Portland is a high-radon zone. If there isn`t a mitigation system already, we are definitely testing. A new system install is roughly $1,500–$2,500.

5️⃣ Blown Window Seals: If the glass looks foggy or streaky inside, the seal is gone. In our historic homes, custom window replacements can easily run $1,000+ per window.

6️⃣ The Sewer Scope: Never skip this. Our old clay pipes and massive tree roots are a bad mix. A $250 scope now saves you from a $15,000 excavation later.

The "pretty stuff" is easy to fix. The "bones" are where we negotiate. 🛠️

I don`t just find you a house; I protect your investment. DM me to start your search with an expert in your corner.

Buying a home is such a whirlwind that it’s easy to miss the small details while you’re falling in love with the perfect backyard or that open-concept floor plan. But as a broker, I’ve seen the “honeymoon phase” end quickly once the reality of living in the house actually sets in.

I want you to love your home long after I hand over the keys, so I’m pulling back the curtain on the things that usually get overlooked. These are some things that make people hate their house after closing:

Low Water Pressure: A daily mood-killer that often hints at old pipes which are a real pain and expense to replace.

Lack of Outlets: You don’t realize how much you rely on power until you’re running extension cords across your home office.

Inadequate Lighting: Dim rooms feel gloomy, and adding recessed lights later means messy drywall work and extra electrician fees.

Tiny Closets: We all think we can declutter, but cramped closets usually end with clothes on the floor and a need for a renovation.

Squeaky Floorboards: They seem charming during a walkthrough but are a nightmare when you’re sneaking to the kitchen at night.

Awkward Cabinetry: If your plates don’t fit in the cabinets or the microwave is too high to reach, every meal becomes a chore.

Limited Guest Parking: It’s a huge hassle to realize after moving in that your friends have nowhere to park, or that the street rules make hosting a total headache.

This is exactly why I tell my clients to look at the “boring” stuff during the inspection. You’re buying a lifestyle, not just a floor plan!

What’s one thing you noticed after moving in that drove you crazy? Let me know in the comments!
